Uttarakhand Flood : ITBP Said Almost 150 People Missing, 8-10 Bodies Recovered

Flood in Uttarakhand: PM Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah have guaranteed all conceivable assistance to the state. The home service is checking the circumstance after the water level in the Dhauliganga stream expanded abruptly.

"Anyone requiring help can contact following emergency numbers -1070, 1905 and 9557444486. I thank state’s population in the affected regions for their cooperation and request everyone to maintain calm & not share unverified information on various platforms," Uttarakhand CM TS Rawat tweeted.

“If you are stranded in affected areas and you need any help. Please contact Disaster Operations Center number,” he added.

An icy mass severed at Joshimath in the Chamoli region on Sunday causing enormous scope decimation in the upper spans of the biologically delicate Himalayas and close by Rishiganga power porject. Homes en route were cleared away as the waters surged down the mountainsides in a seething deluge. There were fears of harm in human settlements downstream. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which is helping in the salvage and alleviation work being done in after a staggering blaze floods in Uttarakhand, said on Sunday that 100-150 individuals are accepted to be dead in the catastrophe. ITBP boss SS Deswal said 8-10 bodies have been recuperated up until now.

ITBP said that the flash flood was reported at 10:45 am in the Righi Ganga river after a glacier broke. "It exponentially increased the volume of water. Due to this, the Rishiganga hydro project near Raini village was completely devastated," it said in a statement.

 The force also said."The BRO bridge on Joshimath-Malari highway was also completely washed away. There were six graziers with their livestock and they were also taken away by flash flood,"

The NTPC project in Tapovan was cleared away totally. In any event 40 individuals were working at the plant, neighborhood specialists said.

"Indian Army has deployed choppers and troops for supporting Uttarakhand government and NDRF to tackle the flood. Military station near Rishikesh actively involved in the coordination of rescue and relief operations with local administration. Army headquarters are monitoring the situation," said Army.
